What this programme is for

Analysts are already doing important work. This programme makes that work faster, deeper and more impactful.

You’ll formalise your analytical skills, fill the gaps and add AI capability that transforms what you can deliver. Whether you’re early in your data career or already working with complex datasets, this programme meets you where you are and takes you further.

You’ll leave able to build pipelines, analyse at scale, visualise insight clearly and communicate findings to stakeholders who don’t live in spreadsheets. AI tools accelerate all of it.

What you'll cover

Every topic connects to real analytical work. AI tools are applied throughout, not saved for a module at the end.

Core curriculum

  • Data collection and sources
  • Data quality and validation
  • Data analysis techniques
  • Data modelling and warehousing
  • Data visualisation and storytelling

Tools and technology

  • Excel, SQL and Power BI
  • Pandas AI for AI-assisted coding
  • Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Copilot
  • Building and managing pipelines
  • Machine learning for trend analysis

AI capability built in

AI tools are woven through every part of this programme. You'll build genuine capability with platforms used by professionals today, applied to your own work.

Building reliable data pipelines with AI-supported tools

  • Automated collection, transformation and loading so you work with cleaner data, faster
  • Automated error detection and monitoring: AI flags anomalies and quality issues in real time so problems don’t reach your analysis

Machine learning for trend analysis

  • Surface patterns and predictions from large datasets that manual methods would miss
  • AI-assisted coding with Pandas AI: write and debug Python faster, with less friction and more time spent on insight

Microsoft Fabric and Power BI Copilot

  • Build, validate and present dashboards at a pace that wasn’t possible before

What you learn on Monday, you apply on Tuesday. Every session is built around real data challenges and real tools. No theory in a vacuum.

Monthly workshops: live, interactive sessions. Real datasets, real tools, applied to actual analytical problems.

1:1 coaching: your Technical Coach knows your organisation and your data environment. They guide your progress and challenge you to go further.

Workplace data projects: analytical tasks using your organisation’s own data. Portfolio evidence that’s genuinely yours.

AI practice: Pandas AI, Fabric, Power BI Copilot, applied to your data, your problems, your outputs.

One coach. The full 16 months. They’ll know your data environment, your organisation and the analytical challenges you’re working through. They will:

  • Conduct formal three-way progress reviews every 12 weeks
  • Mark all work and return written feedback within 10 working days
  • Guide your use of AI tools across your analytical workflows
  • Build and review your Smart Assessor portfolio against the KSBs
  • Prepare you for EPA with mock assessments and targeted coaching

Everything you produce (assignments, project outputs, OTJ logs, reflective accounts) is stored in Smart Assessor. Your coach gives feedback directly in the platform. Your line manager can see your progress.

Skills England requires a minimum of 348 hours of off-the-job training for this apprenticeship. Time spent learning, not just doing.

OTJ covers workshops, coaching, data projects, AI practice, independent study and EPA preparation. Your coach plans it with you from the start.

Level 2 English and maths required before EPA. If you don’t already hold these, your coach will identify this at induction and agree a plan.

The EPA is run by an independent EPAO. For Data Analyst it typically includes a work-based project report and presentation, and a professional discussion underpinned by your portfolio.

Your project draws directly on analytical work you’ve done during the programme. Your coach prepares you thoroughly, including at least one full mock.

No formal academic requirements beyond being in a data-related role with your line manager’s support. You’ll both sign a Commitment Statement confirming your agreement to the programme.
